How To Use This Page

Real documents, straight from the manufacturers

Every document below is published by the manufacturer — Fleetwood Windows & Doors or C.R. Laurence (CRL) — and linked directly to the source, so you always get the current revision. We don’t re-host or rebrand them. Where a detail affects your project, the manufacturer’s latest document and your project’s field conditions govern.

Working on a live project? Versa Glass can pull the right detail set for your submittal or permit package, confirm it against field conditions, and flag anything that needs project-specific engineering. Call (310) 847-9746 or send the plans through our GC & trade page.

Glass Railings · CRL Systems

Railing attachment details — by substrate

A glass railing is only as good as what it’s anchored to. The right detail changes with the structure underneath — here is how the main conditions break down, with CRL’s own catalog, installation, and engineering documents linked below.

Concrete

Surface-mount base shoe anchored into the slab, or core-mount pockets cored into the concrete. Anchor type, spacing, and edge distance come from the system engineering for the guard height and exposure.

Wood Framing

Base shoe or posts must land on solid blocking — never just decking. Lag anchoring into doubled framing, with flashing and waterproofing detailed so the connection stays dry for the life of the deck.

Steel

Through-bolted, tapped, or welded connections to structural steel. Base shoe weld blocks and bolted plates keep the shoe removable for glass service later.

Fascia Mount

The shoe or posts mount to the face of the slab or stringer, keeping the walking surface completely clear — common on balconies and floating stairs. Needs a structurally sound fascia to anchor into.

Stairs & Slopes

Raked runs follow the stair angle with custom-cut glass. Layout starts from a field template of the actual steps — never from the plan alone.

Pool Barriers

California pool-barrier rules add gate requirements on top of guard rules: self-closing, self-latching gates with the latch at code height. The detail set has to show both.

Permit Support

Pulling a permit package together?

Plan check usually wants the same things: what the product is, how it attaches, and who is installing it. We help our project teams assemble all three.

  • Manufacturer product data and installation instructions (above)
  • Attachment details matched to your actual substrate
  • Contractor license and insurance documentation on request
  • Field verification — we measure and confirm conditions before fabrication

One honest note: manufacturer engineering is generic to the system. Where a city requires project-specific stamped calculations, those come from your project’s engineer of record — we coordinate our details with them.
